Casa di Rifugio (House of Refuge) - Sicily

We are looking for men and women who are passionate about the scriptures as we serve people who are displaced from their homelands by war, political upheaval, or economic deprivation.  We currently minister to those primarily from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Morocco, though the community is ever changing.  There are numerous opportunities to share the love and truth of the gospel, in the context of our community center, which offers classes in English, Italian, children’s activities, meals, laundry services, showers and recreational activities.  The nature of our work requires a willingness to cross significant cultural and language barriers to serve our neighbors as we share the good news in prayer, word, testimony, and deed.

Caltanissetta is in the heart of Sicily, a semi-autonomous, magnificent Mediterranean island, which is part of Italy.  Sicily bears the imprint of the many nations that have had dominion here over the centuries: Greek, Saracen, Norman, Spanish and Italian and is particularly famous for its diversity of landscape, extraordinary food, and many UNESCO sites.

We are looking for people who have a strong relationship with Jesus, a sound knowledge of the scripture and a willingness to learn how to communicate gospel truth effectively through interpersonal relationships in a city with an ever-changing environment. Language acquisition for women is provided at our ministry center, by participating alongside local women who are learning Italian. Resources for language learning for men are readily available.

We have a city with unprecedented opportunities and are praying for workers to join with us “for such a time as this." Please consider serving with us as we minister to children, youth, women and men. We are also in need of someone to coordinate media, which would include maintaining our scripture website and sourcing new materials as the migrant population changes, weekly ministry postings to social media, monitoring responses to scripture access and serving at our ministry center as need arises.
